Description
The NewClay Pottery Flameware Grill Basket was invented by Tom in about 2008 back in the Coyote days. Up until that time there were only stamped metal pans and they transmitted heat so fast they tended to burn food before it got cooked.
Betsy had bought me a metal one, but I was always frustrated because food went from raw to burned in a flash.
So one day I grilled some vegetables with the usual burning problem. But I had just made some Flameware skillets that day and wondered.
It Worked!!! The Ceramic Grill Basket is Born
And so the next day I went down and drilled some holes in one of those skillets. After firing and finishing it was the world’s first clay Flameware Grill Basket.
And then the Final Touches
Clay is an insulator and transmits heat more slowly so that the Flameware Ceramic Grill basket cooks beautifully over the outdoor grill, charcoal or gas, but still gives that summertime grilled flavor.
I changed the skillet handle so the Grill Basket fits under the grill cover better, and straightened the side so food doesn’t spill out.
Does So Many Grill Jobs, You’ll Probably Want Two!
It’s perfect for grilling vegetables, shrimp…anything you might otherwise have to put on a skewer.
Now you just lightly oil the grill pan (I use spray olive oil), and put in your food.
It’s also great for chicken, chops, and steaks. I’d have probably thought of it, but a neighbor, Duane, who winters in Florida, is a big grill fan and tried a steak in it…. no flare-up. Chops, no flare-up. Even Chicken does almost no flare. I guess it’s because the ceramic slows the heat down a bit so the food doesn’t
release the grease all at once. And if it does flare a bit, which it will, the flame can’t get back up and burn the meat, so you still get that luscious grill flavor, which is the real reason we sent Duane out on the patio, (That and get him out of the way in the kitchen where he’s no help at al!).
And for me, the best thing you can grill is potatoes. Trust me. Oh, and remember how fish sticks to grills and falls apart? Well, that’s all over within your new Flameware Grill Basket.
Just to show off, this summer we were down at Dave and Kelly’s house in the Hutch suburb of “Stert Lil” and did basically everything except salad on their new grill. Oh, and the ice cream and margaritas.
