Description
I like mugs. Or maybe I like using mugs. Like that first cup of morning coffee. Or hot chocolate on a cold Minnesota afternoon or evening. My standard mug is 12-oz. more or less. And I always give them a thumb rest. Because I like them, and people consistently say they feel good.
And that’s what a mug should do, more than any other thing – except maybe not leak- Is to be comfortable. I rule of thumb among most functional potters, is that a mug is about the most intimate piece of pottery you can own. It’s one of the few pieces that touches your lips. It’s often involved in very personal moments.
I often get requests about making a new one for one that got broken or something,…. right fumble fingers Feser? (I can’t believe they ever let you out with a chain saw let alone a torch). I’ll do my best. A side photo with handle, if still around, helps. How you hold the mug helps, 2 finger, 3 finger, 4 finger. Meat-hook or dainty. Hands and feelings can be all over the place and I want this to be your favorite.
I will try to duplicate a glaze if II can, but I’m a new potter, with a new kiln, and not the master at glazing Betsy was. Again, photos help. A custom glaze attempt can easily take a year to develop.
If you’re going to use it in a Keurig machine, let me know and I’ll make sure it fits without taking out the drip tray. But his may mean a little limit on shape typically lower and widerAnd maybe a bit smaller.. If shape is more important than convenience, we can handle it.
I can make them any size you want. Like Laura, 16-oz. But that’s because she doesn’t want Mark to run after another cup to often. Mark can be considered a mug snob.
- – microwave safe
- – dishwasher safe,
- – non-toxic, lead free glazes
In ordering, please understand, I keep many on hand finished thru the first firing, ready to be glazed. I try to fire every 4 or 5 weeks, but that doesn’t always happen. Good news, is mugs can tuck in between bigger pots so you’ll usually be in the next firing.
One important note, I make my pottery from a clay body specifically made to withstand thermal shock. But just to be sure, it’s always good to run a cup of hot water, the faucet is fine, before adding boiling water or even a Keurig cycle.
