Current News from Tom Wirt at NewClay Pottery

This is going to be a mostly new adventure into clay.  More sensible, less driven to make lots of pots.  More time to explore and experiment. More time for you, to make work you really want.  The list of pottery ideas that were more or less invented by Tom were Chicken Bakers, No-Knead Bread Bakers, Vinegar jars, Veggie Steamers, Clay Coyote Flameware, and many more.

I’ve started doing some “2 person pots” designed to conveniently cook smaller amounts. Perfect for couples and retirees…that’d be me.  It takes a bit to work out sizes and designs.

And you may have some “Why doesn’t he make”, ideas. Let’s give ’em a try.

I Need What You Need…

As you indicate you want them, I’ll bring them back. If you’ve got other ideas, I’ll be happy to give them a try. Shirley’s already on the list to work out a pot and method to do Baguettes as No-Knead Bread. Now there’s a challenge!

Of course I’ll have some of the old stand-bys like Casseroles, Tableware (some smaller dinner plates), Olive Oil Bottles, Platters and Bowls.  And during the year “off” I’ve gotten into smoking meats.  It started with ribs, and progressed into smoked tuna and salmon, a fantastic (if I do say so myself) Canadian bacon, and right after St. Patty’s Day, pastrami.  WOW! Was it good.  My guidebook is “Meathead” by Meathead Goldwyn and his website “Amazing Ribs”.   I’ve never had anything recipe or technique he has in it fail and he explains the science as well as the spicing, fire building and smoking.  So there’ll be a few items to make that easier too.

And now, as of Aug 2018, I’ve discovered beans.  Wow! Who invented these while I wasn’t looking. So go to Facebook and join the Rancho Gordo Bean Club.  Best group of people on the internet,  and you’ll get more quick meal ideas than you ever thought possible.  Tasty, too.  And watch for new bean related pots especially for cooking with beans.

And, of course, cups and mugs and Yunomis and smaller pieces.  Got to fill that kiln with something.
