Tom, the potter at NewClay Pottery, was instrumental in researching Flameware All Ceramic Stovetop cookware when he was at Clay Coyote.
Flameware is a stoneware based clay, designed to have little to no expansion or contraction upon heating. Therefore it will withstand the rigors of being exposed to direct flame on a stovetop (gas, electric, glasstop) or grill or open fire. (Induction stoves require the use of a metal induction plate which turns the induction energy to heat.)
FOOD SAFE, NON-TOXIC, NON-STICK, DISHWASHER AND MICROWAVE SAFE
Because it is glazed with tested, food-safe glazes, and fired to 2387 degF (cone 10), it is also naturally pretty much non-stick with use of a little cooking oil.
As with stoneware Pottery, it is naturally dishwasher and microwave safe. The glazes are formulated and fired to be impervious to absorbing moisture or flavors and completely food-safe.
